Sarah Ferguson’s Location Remains Unknown While Her Daughters Hold On to Royal Homes
The fallout surrounding Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor is reshaping the family’s circumstances.
Sarah Ferguson’s current whereabouts are uncertain since the dramatic arrest of her ex-husband, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor. However, their daughters, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie, continue to maintain homes within royal palaces. This contrast has given rise to fresh curiosity about where the ex-Duchess of York may settle upon returning to her home country, the United Kingdom, especially as the fallout surrounding the former prince is reshaping the family’s circumstances.
Ferguson has steered away from the public eye since December 2025 after attending her grandchild, Athena’s, christening ceremony, as Beatrice’s daughter recently turned a year old. Since then, rumor mills have suggested that she has fled the country as scrutiny of Mountbatten-Windsor intensified after his arrest last month. It was on suspicion of misconduct in public office. According to People, as of late January 2026, the ex-Duchess had plans to remain overseas while recalibrating her next steps in the face of controversy. Reports also came to light suggesting that she has been in wellness centers in Switzerland and Ireland. The Daily Mail also revealed that she checked into Paracelsus recovery, a Swiss rehabilitation clinic, right after Christmas 2025 till the end of January.
During the next month, the outlet again reported that she traveled to the remote wellness retreat, Ballyfin Lodge & Spa, in Donegal, Ireland. She reportedly came back to the coastal locations she had praised as a refugee in a TikTok from 2024. While Ferguson continues to avoid the spotlight, significant shifts took place within the family’s living arrangements. As per the announcement by Buckingham Palace, both she and Mountbatten-Windsor were to evacuate their home of over 2 decades, the Royal Lodge. The latter has currently set base in Wood Farm, in Sandringham estate. Meanwhile, the former is house hunting in Windsor for a residence closer to her daughters.
Yet the York sisters still retain royal residences. Princess Beatrice, who is a tech executive, has an apartment in St. James Palace. Princess Eugenie, who works as an art gallery director, has the Ivy Cottage in Kensington Palace in her name. As per The Times, the arrangement was established earlier with Andrew’s involvement. A source detailed, “The [rental] deal was made with their father as he wanted them to have a foothold in the royal palace.”
The outlet also reported that while Mountbatten-Windsor was “initially responsible for covering his daughters’ rent, it is not clear if they are now responsible for covering their own costs." The exact cost of both properties remains unknown. Apart from this, both Princess Beatrice and Eugenie’s titles remain unaffected despite their father’s Style, Title, and Honors being revoked in October 2025, as announced by Buckingham Palace. As the York family continues to navigate the fallout of these long-standing controversies, the public is left with more questions than answers. Ultimately, it may fall to William and Kate to lead the monarchy out of the shadow of the past and restore the public’s faith in the Firm.
