Royal Reporter Reveals the Awkward Moment Prince William Confronted Her Over a Harsh Headline
Journalist Emily Andrews recently shared new insight into the Prince of Wales while discussing her years covering the royal family.
Prince William might appear cool and collected most of the time, but it turns out brazen opinions might affect him more than he lets on. Journalist Emily Andrews recently shared new insight into the Prince of Wales while discussing her years covering the royal family on her podcast, Catching Up With the Royals. She revealed that William once brought up a criticism she had written about him years earlier, suggesting the comment had clearly stuck with him.
In an Instagram reel, she revealed that William once brought up the time she referred to him as “work shy” in a past article. Over the years, the future monarch has often been criticized for taking on fewer public duties than his father, King Charles, and his aunt, Princess Anne. Andrews had used the phrase in a 2016 article while working for The Sun, and it seems the comment stayed with the Prince long after it was published.
“I remember when I wrote the article ‘Work Shy Wills’ — that was me, I’m afraid,” Andrews admitted. She then recalled that during a royal tour of India, William specifically wanted to speak with her about it. However, she did not spill the full conversation for now and said the moment reminded her that “he’s very human.”
Andrews previously spoke about the moment with Sky News back in 2022, and revealed that William did not seem angry about the article when they eventually discussed it. Instead, she explained that he appeared to accept the criticism while also suggesting that much of the work he was doing back then was happening away from public view. She said, “He said that it was fair enough, but there were a lot of things we hadn't seen behind the scenes.”
Andrews continued, “And actually fast forward to 2019/2020 and we heard a bit more about the stuff that he'd been doing with the air ambulance, the children's lives he'd been saving.” The journalist also described William as “very clever” and naturally curious, adding that he has a “cheeky grin and twinkle in his eye.” At the same time, she admitted there is still an edge to him and that he is probably not someone you would want to cross. A similar remark was made by an insider who revealed to Rob Shuter that William has a ‘ruthless streak’.
The insider revealed that William tends to hold grudges and does not seem to give second chances to those who crossed him. “He doesn’t forget, and he doesn’t forgive easily. If you cross the line, that’s it,” the insider revealed. However, royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams noted that the future king must be tough in today’s world.
