The late Queen Elizabeth II was all about royal etiquette and decorum—right down to her eating habits. Her former royal chef, Darren McGrady, revealed that the Queen peeled and sliced her bananas into tiny pieces, eating them with a fork. When etiquette expert William Hansen showcased her quirky eating habit in a viral video, royal fans couldn't help but lose it.

McGrady told Marie Claire, “With a banana, she will cut off the bottoms and cut the banana lengthwise, and then cut the banana into tiny slices to eat with a fork.” His statement was also echoed by Hansen, who told the Daily Mail that the monarch usually ate bananas after dinner was served. “At state banquets, fruit is still served as a palate cleanser. A banana is always the easiest fruit to pick. Cut both ends off with dessert cutlery (very sharp), slice down the skin to unwrap, and then cut off slices and eat with a fork and knife,” he explained.

Hansen's video demonstrating how the Queen preferred to eat bananas went viral on X (formerly Twitter), garnering a whopping 53 million views. Chiming in on the same, a royal watcher remarked, “Nobody is eating a banana with a knife and fork ?.” Another quipped, “If I were the Queen, I would have someone else peel and cut it.” In a similar vein, another added, “I better be living off tax payers money if I have to eat a damn banana that way.” A viewer mocked, “It’s gotta be so exhausting being rich beyond the average person’s ability to understand. ?I am surprised she didn’t have someone flying it into her mouth like an airplane.”

Others took issue with the fact that Hansen claimed the Queen “doesn't peel her bananas like a primate.” A netizen trolled, “Was the Queen not aware that she was in fact a primate?” Another royal watcher said, “Something makes me so angry about 'we don’t peel it like a primate.'”

Much like her mother, Queen Elizabeth, Princess Anne is also not far behind in her strange habit of banana eating. However, it has less to do with how she eats her bananas and more to do with when she eats them. Former royal footman, Steven Kaye, told Marie Claire, “Once the chefs had cleaned up in the kitchen, you would go and get things for breakfast and there would always be a bunch of bananas literally on the side that were black, they were left to rot, they were never put away in the fridge.” He revealed that the Princess specifically prefers to eat overripe bananas.
