Princess Charlotte’s New Birthday Portrait Has Royal Fans Saying the Same Thing About Dad William

Princess Charlotte celebrated her 10th birthday last week on 2 May. To mark the special occasion, the Prince and Princess of Wales followed royal tradition and shared an adorable birthday portrait of their daughter on social media. One detail that caught the attention of royal watchers is that Charlotte looked like a spitting image of her father, Prince William.

According to Sky News, the photo was taken by the Princess of Wales herself, given her love for photography, during a visit to Cumbria earlier this year. In the photo, Charlotte is seen sitting on a patch of grass in the countryside, wearing a camouflage jacket and flashing a bright grin.

As Kensington Palace released the image of Charlotte on X (formerly Twitter), fans couldn't help but say the same thing. A royal watcher commented, “Charlotte looks so much like William in this photo ?.” Another netizen echoed, “Happy 10th birthday, Princess Charlotte. Wow, she is Prince William’s mini me ??.” In a similar vein, one quipped, “Oh my gosh, did her mom’s genes even try?! ? She looks so much like her dad! Beautiful young lady!” As the comments poured in, a royal watcher also said, “Wow, she really looks like William there but with Catherine’s hair. She is gorgeous!”

While most opined that the young Princess looked like a Xerox copy of her father, others felt she resembled other royal members in the family more. For instance, a person penned, “I think she looks so much like Princess Margaret’s daughter, Lady Sarah Chatto.” Meanwhile, one argued she resembled her late great-grandmother. They said, “She looks exactly like Queen Elizabeth II.” A royal watcher also opined, “She reminds me so much of a young Princess Anne.”

Interestingly, the Princess of Wales, Kate Middleton, broke one tradition with Charlotte’s birthday portrait. According to Hello! magazine, Middleton, who usually uses a professional camera to photograph her children, opted for an iPhone this time. The outlet also noted that Charlotte’s picture, along with Prince Louis’s birthday photo from last month, is among the most casual royal portraits to date. For Louis' portrait, the Prince and Princess of Wales deviated from protocol when they shared the picture on the morning of his birthday. Traditionally, birthday portraits of royal children are released at midnight on their special day. They also shared a behind-the-scenes video for Louis' birthday, which the Waleses have previously never done. In the video, Louis is seen, too, posing outdoors, carefree and grinning at the camera. He says, “I can jump down from there,” before leaping from the top of a large log a few seconds later.
