Anne and Sir Laurence’s festive greetings for this year surfaced earlier than expected after images of their Christmas card appeared on social media on Tuesday. The former had not officially released the card when it began circulating online. The early appearance drew attention precisely because senior royals usually unveil their seasonal messages through official channels and closer to Christmas.

The understated yet elegant card included a photo taken during the royal couple’s visit to Sark in May, when the Channel Island marked Liberation Day on the 10th. The image was captured by Aaron Chown and shows the Princess Royal sharing warm smiles with her husband as they traveled through the island in a traditional horse-drawn carriage. The choice of image reflected her long-established preference for meaningful royal moments rather than curated or overtly festive photographs.

Within the card, the couple included a simple yet characteristically warm message. It read, “With Best Wishes for a Happy and Peaceful Christmas and New Year from Anne and Tim.” The tone represented the former’s reputation for restraint and practicality. Royal watchers praised the couple for the same.

As the card made the rounds on X (formerly Twitter), fans were quick to rave about Anne’s humility, particularly noticing the omission of her Princess title in the sign-off. A comment read, “No need to blow the trumpet with the Princess title, and yet impactful. I like it!” Another was in awe of their photo and remarked, “Love this photo of them both.” In a similar vein, one wrote, “Love this! Thanks for sharing.” The affection the couple shares for each other also shone through in the card.

As per the Daily Mail, royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams also weighed in on the same and the choice of image, which featured horses. He said, “What is fascinating about their relationship is that Tim Laurence is not fond of horses and says so. This is unusual in a family devoted to equestrian pursuits, but no barrier to their mutual affection!” He further argued that the informal photograph of the two set the correct example of a royal Christmas card.

Anne’s card leaked just days after King Charles and Queen Camilla released their own festive greetings last Saturday.
