Prince Harry Serves BBQ, Photobombs Fans and Charms in Apron on Solo Trip Away From Meghan — Photos
Prince Harry's latest solo outing featured barbecue, basketball, and plenty of playful moments with fans.
As the rest of the royals got together for Trooping the Colour, Prince Harry spent the weekend across the pond, in Texas. The latter was in the Lone Star state, making a surprise appearance as Meghan Markle stayed back in California, spending time with her friends. He traveled to San Antonio in order to support competitors and families attending the Warrior Games. It is an event for the wounded, ill military personnel, and the injured that helped inspire the creation of the Invictus Games more than a decade ago.
Harry’s playful side was a major highlight of his weekend outing. Wearing a white shirt and blue apron, the Duke was volunteering alongside United Airlines’ barbecue team. He helped prepare and serve food for competitors, staff, and families. Many clips shared on social media by the Fisher House Foundation showed Harry in the kitchen flipping burgers, serving meat with tongs, and even posing for selfies with customers. He also couldn't help but add some humor to the occasion. He did so by jumping into other people's photos and photobombing shots with a grin. The Fisher House Foundation later wrote on their Instagram post, “A special lunch came with a special surprise today. Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex, joined the Warrior Games Family Program, serving up BBQ cooked up by the @united airlines BBQ team to families, competitors and staff.” Watch the video here!
The organization made sure to focus on Harry’s longstanding connection to the event. In the post, the foundation also mentioned, “More than a decade after attending his first @dowwarriorgames, Prince Harry continues to return to the event that helped inspire the creation of the @weareinvictusgames, a meaningful reminder of the lasting impact of adaptive sports and the resilience, determination, and camaraderie on display throughout the week.” The appearance sheds light on Harry’s continued commitment to military veterans and adaptive sports. These themes have remained at the forefront of his charitable work since he founded the Invictus Games more than a decade ago, in 2014.
While Harry was busy in Texas, Markle seemed to be enjoying a quieter weekend at the couple’s Montecito home. It was one of her closest friends, Kelly McKee Zajfen, who shared details of their girls’ gathering on Instagram and wrote, “Ugh oh. Another one has been taken by the Maj bug, that being me. A perfect day spent with my ladies and having some much-needed mama time. Thanks, M & T.” The initials supposedly referred to Meghan and her friend Tracy Robbins, who responded with, “Love you! You are a natural. Love you. Miss you already.” The Duchess has previously spoken about hosting regular mahjong nights with friends, even featuring the pastime in her series With Love, Meghan, on Netflix.
Harry’s Texas trip also included a surprise appearance at the Knicks Vs. Spurs game. He was spotted at the courtside without his wife. As he dressed himself casually in a navy blue polo shirt and a gray baseball cap, he seemed relaxed as ever. He was seen enjoying the action alongside other sports fans in the audience surrounding him. The appearance rounded out a busy Texas visit that highlighted a more relaxed side of the Duke, from volunteering with veterans and their families to enjoying a night of basketball in San Antonio.
