Prince Harry is Eyeing Royalty Perks — But Not Its Responsibilities, Source Claims

At the moment, Harry has too many pressing issues that could be solved if he cuts a deal with the monarchy.

Prince Harry was recently in the UK to promote events for the one-year countdown to the 2027 Invictus Games in Birmingham. His arrival was marked by noticeable tension, particularly after receiving a snub from the royal family regarding the King's offer for him to stay at Buckingham Palace. The Duke suffered another blow when the long-awaited verdict in his privacy lawsuit went against him.

However, the trip ended on a bittersweet note with an intimate reunion at Highgrove. Sources close to the situation told the Daily Mail that Harry was "buoyed, very happy, and really energised" after spending time with his father, King Charles. Now back in the US with a positive outlook, reports claim that Harry is eyeing a return to the royal fold—though reportedly with a personal agenda of his own.

Sources have revealed to Rob Shuter that Prince Harry is already longing for another major royal welcome. Writing in his Naughty But Nice Substack, Shuter detailed how the ripples of the Duke's wishful thinking have put the monarchy back on its toes. "No one doubts Harry misses parts of his old life," a senior royal source disclosed. "The question is what exactly he misses. Is it his family—or the status, security, and influence that came with being a working royal?"

Those close to the King are reportedly questioning Harry's motives, given his track record of airing royal family drama through interviews, memoirs, and documentaries—actions that have caused a deep rift between Harry and Prince William. "Trust has been shattered," another insider highlighted. "Private family conversations have become books, television interviews, documentaries, lawsuits, and endless headlines. People inside the Palace are asking one question: What's different this time?" With these concerns in mind, the Palace strictly forbade the Sussexes from engaging in any media circus prior to their meeting with the King.

Sources indicate that the monarchy will stand by the late Queen Elizabeth's rule regarding any "half-in, half-out" arrangement. When Prince Harry and Meghan Markle sought to step down from their royal duties in 2020, they proposed an alternative. However, this idea raised major concerns for Queen Elizabeth II, who feared it could yield catastrophic results.

Royal expert Richard Palmer noted that the Queen—supported by the then-Prince Charles and other family members—believed the arrangement was entirely unworkable, Mint reported. Despite this, royal sources believe that following his successful meeting with the King, the Duke would not hesitate to revisit the idea if given the chance. "The late Queen said no, and that answer still stands," a palace source noted. "You can’t be a part-time royal. You’re either all in, or you’re all out."

At the moment, Harry faces several pressing issues that could be resolved if he cuts a deal with the monarchy. He is faced with staggering legal fees after his court case loss that require immediate attention, while he and Meghan continue trying to gain a foothold in Hollywood with projects to revive their brand. However, sources warn that while the Duke may have regained favor in the eyes of the King as a son, reaping the benefits of being an official working royal again is out of the question. "Harry may eventually be welcomed back as a son," one source concluded. "But as a working royal? That ship has sailed."
