Prince Harry once shared a close bond with his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth. However, he allegedly later blew their relationship with the late monarch. A friend of the late Queen claimed that this happened long before Harry tied the knot to Meghan Markle. Throwing light on the events that took place ahead of the Sussexes’ nuptials, the source shared that while things seemed amicable publicly, behind-the-scenes drama ensued that left the Queen allegedly feeling ‘very sad.’

Seven years since the royal wedding, a cousin of the former Queen and an acclaimed party planner has made bombshell claims. According to The Mirror, author Sally Bedell Smith has written about her conversation with Lady Elizabeth Anson about an incident that involved the Duke of Sussex and his grandmother. Anson claimed the late monarch was shocked to learn that Harry asked the Archbishop of Canterbury to perform his nuptials without asking the Dean of Windsor first. The situation worsened when the Prince wasn't happy with his grandmother doing ‘what she wants.’ Anson claimed, “She [the Queen] said she was really upset. I was shocked when the Queen told me this, how she was so saddened. I had no idea about the conversation, that he was rude to her for ten minutes.” Moreover, the monarch was also upset with Markle keeping details about her wedding gown from her a secret. Anson said, “They had tea with her the day before yesterday. She was trying to find out about the wedding dress, and Meghan wouldn’t tell her.”

Anson further claimed that after the Prince had ‘blown’ his bond with the Queen, he later ‘patched things up’ by sharing the details of the wedding plans. The incident allegedly led the Queen to think of Harry as “besotted and weak about women.” This had the Queen reportedly later hinting to her cousin about the tensions between Palace walls. She allegedly told Anson, “Meghan and William, and Kate are not working well.”

Previously, a royal biographer had also revealed the late monarch was upset over Markle’s wedding gown. According to the Daily Mail, royal editor Ingrid Seward, in her book My Mother and I, detailed an incident when the Queen shared her honest views about Markle’s gown. She penned, “The Queen never voiced her true opinions except to her close confidants, such as Lady Elizabeth Anson, or Liza as she was known to her friends.” The author continued, “She told me that the Queen had made only one remark about Meghan and Harry's wedding and that was that Meghan's Givenchy wedding gown was ‘too white.’” In the late monarch’s views, the white dress was “not appropriate for a divorcee getting remarried in church,” and she was also disappointed with the “Disneyesque spectacle of the day itself.”
