Prince Harry and William Don’t Meet Despite Being Just 12 Miles Apart as Royal Reunion Hopes Fade
The estranged brothers made parallel appearances in London, just 12 miles apart.
Royal watchers have long closely followed the strained relationship between Prince Harry and Prince William, with each passing year seemingly widening their emotional divide. Recently, however, their physical distance shrank unexpectedly. While Harry attended the 14th Invictus Games Foundation Conversation at Chatham House in central London, William was just a short drive away, visiting the Ysgol Gymraeg Llundain in West London.
Despite attending separate engagements, the brothers were just 12 miles apart—a coincidence that quickly caught the attention of royal watchers. However, despite this sudden physical proximity, Harry and William are not expected to meet or reunite during the former's ongoing U.K. visit. It appears the highly public rift, which began when Harry and Meghan Markle stepped back from royal duties in 2020, shows no signs of thawing.
Following this rift, which reportedly began after William expressed concerns regarding Harry’s relationship with Meghan, the brothers have had no direct contact with each other. However, Harry did write extensively about William in his 2023 memoir, Spare, discussing the constant comparison and competition between them. He also detailed an argument that turned heated and physical, while calling William seemingly contradictory terms like “beloved brother” and “arch-nemesis.” This, expectedly, raised a lot of eyebrows. Beyond this, the brothers didn’t even speak when they both attended the funeral of their uncle, Lord Robert Fellowes, in August 2024.
While discussing this growing distance, Robert Lacey, author of Battle of Brothers, told PEOPLE that "the rift is very profound and very long-lasting. It will not be changed, in my opinion, until Harry makes a move and apologizes.” On the other hand, historian Amanda Foreman noted that “everyone wants it to happen on their terms, but that’s what makes it impossible.” Unfortunately, despite Harry’s presence in his homeland, there are no plans for a reunion between him and any of the royal family members, including King Charles.
Earlier, there had been hope that the monarch would be able to reunite with his grandchildren, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. However, those expectations have faded since Meghan and the children did not accompany Harry on his trip, reportedly due to an increase in security concerns. And there's no indication they will be joining him for the second half of his trip, either. No royal reunion on the cards this time around.
