Until Andrew Mountbatten Windsor's fall from grace, the idea of royals losing their titles seemed unthinkable. But with the former Prince losing all his honors and styles, the future for the Sussexes now seems bleak. Royal watchers and critics alike think Meghan Markle and Prince Harry could be next in line for a reckoning once deemed far-fetched.

Megyn Kelly, known for her anti-Sussex rhetoric, recently asserted that the Sussexes are headed for the same fate as Mountbatten Windsor. “King William, in whatever years it takes after he ascends, I think he’s going to take away their royal titles, and that should happen ASAP,” Kelly told the Daily Mail, doubling down on her claim that the couple has become more brand than bloodline.

Kelly, who is set to launch The Megyn Kelly Channel on SiriusXM, said, “These two are all about themselves. I think it’s a matter of time before they lose their titles, and they definitely have lost support here in the United States.” She pointed to their chilly reception at the World Series recently, opining, “You saw them get booed at the game the other day. That’s real.”

Her comments struck a chord because, for all the noise surrounding Markle and Harry’s freedom from the institution, the question of why they still hold on to their royal designations has never really gone away. The couple agreed not to use their HRH (His or Her Royal Highness) titles for commercial purposes when they stepped back from royal duties in 2020. But they remain the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, and their children, Archie and Lilibet, were formally recognized as Prince and Princess after King Charles’s coronation.

The speculation over whether the titles could be revoked has intensified, thanks in part to the recent developments around Mountbatten Windsor. The former Duke of York, who faced years of scrutiny over his association with Jeffrey Epstein, recently relinquished his York dukedom after what insiders describe as 'gentle but firm pressure' from Prince William. William, reportedly, personally intervened.

In the aftermath of the same, Kelly dubbed Markle’s continued use of her royal brand 'absurd'. She slammed, “She [Markle] is dining out over here on the British royal titles, the family she called racist, the people she called racist.” With British MP Rachael Maskell reportedly reviving a proposal to grant the reigning monarch the power to remove hereditary titles, the legal mechanisms may soon be in place for such a move.

According to a Page Six insider, “If they pass these bills, I would not be surprised if Harry is the next one to go... I would not be surprised if William does that… he’s not a vindictive person, but he feels very let down, and it’s always much more difficult when you are let down by somebody close to you.” William, interestingly, has himself frequently talked about his vision of change, and a leaner monarchy, adding to the speculations that he would take away the titles of all non-working royals, including his brother and sister-in-law.
