Meghan Markle Reveals How She and Harry Will Spend New Year’s Eve — and It’s Just What You’d Expect
Meghan Markle plans on ushering in the New Year quietly. She has chosen an intimate evening at home over the polished appearances she is often associated with. Known for hosting with care and creativity, the Duchess recently revealed that this year’s celebration with Prince Harry will be a low-key affair, an evening spent sipping on some 'bubbly.'
Markle announced her New Year plans in her newsletter to subscribers of her lifestyle brand, As Ever. It was titled ‘Pop the bubbly’ and included a link to her wine collection alongside a personal note. She wrote, “When the clock strikes midnight, we’ll be celebrating right along with you... Glasses raised, bottles of bubbly popping, and confetti in the air — only in our case, it’s Flower Sprinkles falling instead.”
She was referring to her famous edible-flower sprinkles, sold on her site for $15. In her message, she also added, “A crisp pour of Brut, a joyful toast and a wish from us to you: may the year ahead be full of good company, memorable nights, and plenty of reasons to celebrate.” She signed off by tipping her hat to her British ties, with a “Cheers, dears!”
The low-key tone didn't come as a surprise since Markle's Netflix show, With Love, Meghan, focuses on entertaining at home and delighting her guests through thoughtful food, drinks, and carefully curated details. The show centers on warmth and small luxuries, just like her pared-back New Year's plans.
The New Year has always been a time for Markle to reflect. In 2015, she shared a heartfelt post on her now-defunct lifestyle blog, The Tig, outlining her hopes for the year ahead. That year in the blog, she wrote, “My New Year’s resolution is to leave room for magic.” The former royal added, “To make my plans, and be okay if they sometimes break. To set my goals, but to be open to change.” She concluded by saying, “Have a beautiful, blissful, and incredibly magical 2016. So grateful to be with you on the ride.”
That reflection proved prescient as in 2016, she met and began dating Harry. She was still working as an actress on the popular legal drama series Suits. Little did she know that the relationship would transform her life and change her trajectory. Now, as she welcomes the New Year quietly, months ahead appear quite busy for Markle. She and Harry recently announced their decision to rename the Archewell Foundation to Archewell Philanthropies. They signalled a renewed focus on their charitable and media ambitions. According to Rob Shuter on Substack, Markle is also set to expand her role at Netflix, where she will allegedly direct a special biopic marking the 30th anniversary of Princess Diana's death with Harry. She is also returning to acting through the upcoming film Close Personal Friends, ending her eight-year hiatus.
