Prince William and Kate Middleton’s love story began as teenagers at St. Andrews University in 2001. Royal author Claudia Joseph quoted a friend of the Princess who once told Middleton she was lucky to have landed a future King. In response, the Princess of Wales allegedly had a bold response, which showed early on that she was no timid royal, unlike the late Princess Diana, who remained undeterred in her love for King Charles despite his infidelity.
As per Woman & Home, Middleton was known as the ‘prettiest girl’ in her hall and had many admirers. Despite her killer looks, Joseph, in her book Kate Middleton: The Making Of A Princess, claimed that one of the Princess's university friends had expressed surprise and excitement about Middleton bagging a Prince. In response, the Princess smiled and allegedly said, “He's lucky to have me.” In their 2001 engagement interview, William, too, felt it was he who was lucky. He gushed, “I knew there was something very special about her…She's got a really naughty sense of humor, which kind of helps me because I've got a really dry sense of humor, so it was good fun.”
The Princess of Wales’s confident reply comes as a stark contrast to that of her mother-in-law, Diana. For her part, the late Princess kept professing her love for then-Prince Charles, despite his affair with Camilla Parker Bowles. As reported by the Daily Express, in the documentary ‘Royalty Close Up: The Photography of Kent Gavin, photographer Kent Gavin revealed, “She said to me after all the rumors of the marriage and everything, she said on a flight somewhere: ‘Kent, you won’t believe it, but I still love him.” As per InStyle, in a separate incident, she allegedly told her dance teacher, Anne Allen, “I just can’t seem to do anything right…I do love him so much and want him to be proud of me, but I don’t think he feels the same way.”
Meanwhile, it was once widely reported that when William had brutally broken up with Middleton in 2007, over the phone, Middleton didn't waste time wallowing. Instead, she lived it up. According to royal author Rob Jobson, Middleton decided to take a vacation to Ibiza with some of her friends and hit the nightclubs with her sister, Pippa Middleton. As per Marie Claire, the author spilled, “He [William] soon began having serious second thoughts, though he realized that after the way he'd treated Catherine, it wasn't going to be easy to woo her back.”
Royal expert Edward White has also claimed that Middleton isn't anything like Diana. He told Fox News, “The big lesson that she probably learned from Diana’s life is don’t rush into becoming a royal.” Middleton also learnt from the late royal not to divulge too much information to the press. The expert added that Middleton “handles the press scrutiny really well, but she…had to switch herself off and only focus on duty,” unlike Diana, who would allegedly edit stories of herself and fax them back before they went live.
