Kate Middleton Makes a Rare Admission About Prince George During a Surprise Visit to Charity Shop
The visit to Café 98 was kept discreet due to its small size. Local patrons and shoppers were surprised to see her.
The Princess of Wales, Kate Middleton, visited The Treehouse Hospice in Ipswich today to highlight the significant impact of care and support from East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH) for children with life-limiting conditions and their families. The engagement was significant, as she retraced her steps from 2012, when she made her first public speech for the charity after marrying Prince William. Later, Middleton made a surprise stop at Café 98 in Hoveton, the first and only café of EACH hospices, situated within a retail store.

According to Emily Ferguson, royal editor of the Daily Express' X account, "She sat down for a coffee, toured the shop and helped sort donations. Shoppers were awestruck that the future Queen had come to visit their local shop, and Catherine stopped to speak with most of them. News of the royal visit quickly spread, and over 100 people gathered outside to catch a glimpse of the princess."
While chatting with the locals and volunteers, the Princess of Wales spoke fondly about her children. She expressed that she missed her eldest son, Prince George, who started boarding at Eton College last month. Speaking to shoppers at the charity shop, she said she was looking forward to her children returning home for half term. Denise Ashton, a local, said Middleton looked forward to George's homecoming and hinted at potential plans during the break.
Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis will also be on break from their school, Lambrook, starting tomorrow.

During the royal visit, Middleton also engaged with local children outside a shop, asking if they were on half term. One child said it was his last day of break, and she responded like any other excited mother: "My children break up tomorrow, and I can't wait to have them all home." The visit to Café 98 remained discreet because of its small size. Local patrons were surprised to see her, and she warmly interacted with guests, particularly enjoying a moment with a group of ladies who invited her to see their shopping, to which she enthusiastically agreed.

Essie Landsborough, 75, took out a box containing two port sippers. The Princess of Wales was delighted and then examined the boxes, saying, "You never know what you're going to find [in a charity shop]. That's what's so nice. It feels a bit more like a treasure hunt." Middleton then revealed a hidden habit to the surprised shopper when she was asked if she ever went to charity shops. "Do you go to charity shops?" "Yes, I do," Kate said. "I love going round a charity shop. When I was up at university in St Andrew's, there were a lot of charity shops," Express UK reported.
