Backlash and scrutiny have become almost synonymous with the name Meghan Markle, with even the smallest of her actions inviting strong opinions. A light-hearted moment she shared on Instagram while preparing her Thanksgiving turkey recently sparked yet another online troll storm. In the aftermath, she now appears closer than ever to stepping back from sharing her personal life in public.

According to Rob Shuter’s ShuterScoop, the Duchess of Sussex has been left shaken, exhausted, and very disheartened after the wave of backlash turned what was meant to be a simple festive clip into another round of public ridicule. What she hoped would come across as warm and domestic is now being described by insiders as the final straw in a long line of relentless pile-ons.

Shuter reports that Meghan believed she was sharing an easy, relatable moment; seasoning a Thanksgiving turkey at home, with her guards down. Instead, the short Instagram time-lapse video became the trigger for fierce criticism. “Meghan was devastated. It was supposed to be wholesome. She didn’t think the world would drag her over a turkey. She’s sick of being criticized no matter what she does,” a source told Shuter. Another insider added, “She said she’s ready to give up sharing anything personal. She feels humiliated and blindsided.”

The video itself was brief and ordinary. It showed the 44-year-old mixing seasonings in a bowl and rubbing the blend directly onto a raw turkey as part of her Thanksgiving preparation. But viewers were quick to zoom in on one small detail—Meghan kept her rings and jewellery on throughout the process. Although she washed her hands afterward, social media users accused her of unsafe food practices. What followed was a wave of mockery, warnings about bacteria, and one particularly cruel nickname that began circulating widely: “Salmonella Sussex.

Describing the online reaction, Shuter wrote, “Meanwhile, the comments online went nuclear — people calling her unsanitary, dangerous, clueless… even comparing the poor bird to a biohazard scene.” He added that the timing made the backlash even harder for Meghan to process. “And get this: she was especially upset because just days earlier, she and Harry were baking cookies with Archie and Lilibet for charity — hoping to soften their image. This? Not the follow-up she imagined.”

Those close to her now say Meghan feels trapped in a cycle where every move invites criticism. Post nothing, and she is labelled distant. Share something ordinary, and she is accused of being careless or fake. Behind the scenes, that emotional toll appears to be mounting. “Every tiny thing becomes ammunition,” one source reportedly said, adding that Meghan is increasingly unsure whether sharing anything personal is worth the cost anymore.

Reflecting on how deeply the moment seems to have landed with her, Shuter added, “This time, it was the turkey that got roasted… but Meghan feels like she’s the one who got burned.”
