Harry and Meghan Called ‘Tacky’ For Partying with the Kardashians on Remembrance Weekend
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are back in the headlines over the optics of their latest outing. As the couple attended Kris Jenner’s lavish 70th birthday bash, while the royal family came together for Remembrance weekend, royal watchers were left divided. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex arrived in matching black outfits and joined a host of celebrities at Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez’s Beverly Hills estate. As pictures of Harry and Markle smiling for the cameras went viral, Palace insiders were said to be shaking their heads, dubbing their appearance ‘tacky’ and at odds with royal values.
The James Bond-themed celebration was the talk of the town. Jenner, in a red Givenchy couture gown, hosted high-profile guests like Beyoncé, Jay-Z, Mariah Carey, Oprah Winfrey, and Mark Zuckerberg, to name a few. Markle, meanwhile, dressed in a sleek black turtleneck gown, posed for pictures with Kim Kardashian and was seen warmly embracing Jenner. Harry also looked sharp in his tuxedo and but wore a red poppy in honor of Remembrance Sunday. Though onlookers noted he looked less at ease among the Hollywood elite than his wife.
Those close to the royal household have reportedly questioned the couple’s choice of company. “It’s so tacky,” a Palace insider told Page Six. “It truly shows that Harry is so far removed from the rest of the family. These people may be stars in America, but the pure ostentatiousness is at odds with what Prince William is trying to do with his life and the monarchy,” the source argued. The Sussexes and Zuckerberg being under the same roof also raised eyebrows, given in January, Markle had accused the billionaire of “contributing to a global mental health crisis” by loosening content restrictions.
Still, their presence at the Bezos residence was no coincidence. Amazon MGM, owned by the 61-year-old, is behind Markle’s latest project, Close Personal Friends, a rom-com where the Duchess is said to be playing a fictionalized version of herself. The role, filmed just last week, is being dubbed Markle’s careful step back into the acting scene after an eight-year hiatus.
Coming back to the recent criticism, Harry and Markle's appearance at the Baby2Baby Gala earlier, in honor of their close friend Serena Williams, only reinforced the backlash as it showed their commitment to remaining visible in elite social circles. As per reports, Markle had long sought a friendship with Jenner. In the past, she has also given her a limited-edition jar of strawberry jam from her lifestyle brand, As Ever, to the 'momager.' The couple seems to be putting down roots in the entertainment industry, the world they now call home.
