As Prince Harry continues to make solo trips to the UK, the question remains: 'Will Meghan Markle ever return to the UK?' According to new reports, there may be a clear reason why she won’t. The Duchess of Sussex hasn’t set foot in the UK since 2022 (the Queen's passing) — not even after King Charles and Kate Middleton's cancer diagnosis. Things have in fact grown more strained between the Sussexes and the royal family.
Earlier, when Harry was set to visit London to celebrate the tenth anniversary of the Invictus Games, royal fans eagerly awaited to see if Markle would also accompany him. As reported by the Daily Express, commenting on Markle staying put in the US, British commentator Esther Krakue told GB News, "I actually think she's avoiding the UK because she's not interested in the whole drama and, kind of, being injected, is she going to talk to [Princess] Kate, and all of that.”
She further opined, "I personally think she's not going to come because, obviously, Harry has lost his case with the Home Office and he said he doesn't feel safe bringing his family over [to the UK] and I also think this is going to be a time where distance between the Sussexes and the royal family will be calcified because the focus will obviously be on the Princess of Wales and the King recovering. They don't need the whole Netflix drama." Another question, however, also lingers — if not Markle, will Harry bring their children to the UK to visit his cousins? The little ones, after all, have never known their roots, with Princess Lilibet also being born in the States.
In his book Endgame, author Omid Scobie also claimed that Markle doesn’t want to go back to the UK because she never felt comfortable living there. He argued that she doesn’t want to be part of the royal family anymore, as reported by The Mirror. The author, however, claimed that the Duke of Sussex is reportedly ready to forget the past and mend the rift. Meanwhile, royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams previously suggested that if Harry and Markle ever wanted to start a new life outside the U.S., it likely wouldn’t be a return to the UK.
Instead, he suggested Portugal as a possible spot. His claims came in the light of the pair purchasing property in Portugal and the legal tension over Harry’s visa paperwork in the U.S., with questions raised about his past drug use, as reported by GB News. Fitzwilliams claimed, "Obviously, the royal family would not want the Sussexes in Britain, but the Sussexes also would not want to come to Britain."
