Meghan Markle Bonds with Little Girl Who Shares a Surprising Link to Princess Lilibet
Harry and Meghan visited the Royal Children's Hospital on the first day of their Australia tour.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have officially begun the Melbourne phase of their Australia visit. The couple is set to spend three days in the city, participating in several charitable engagements, private meetings, and other carefully planned initiatives. Today, the couple visited the Royal Children's Hospital, where excited young patients eagerly waited for their chance to meet the Duke and Duchess. Amid this, Meghan shared a particularly heartwarming moment with a little girl that quickly captured everyone's attention.
As reported by The Mirror, the 44-year-old Duchess was seen talking to a little girl named Lily—a name that is very similar to that of Meghan and Harry’s daughter, Princess Lilibet. It's worth noting that while her official name is Princess Lilibet, her parents lovingly use the nickname 'Lili' in their day-to-day life. Among all the Australians who turned out at the venue to greet the royal couple, little Lily stood out as she proudly held a beautiful handmade sign that read, “Welcome Harry & Meghan.” She even offered Meghan a knitted flower as the Duchess paused to have a brief conversation.
Furthermore, Lily's mother also shared another surprising detail, revealing that her daughter was born just one day before Princess Lilibet. The young royal was born on June 4, 2021, a year after Harry and Meghan decided to step down from their royal responsibilities and relocated from the UK to California. Announcing the good news back then, the royal couple wrote, “On June 4th, we were blessed with the arrival of our daughter, Lili. She is more than we could have ever imagined, and we remain grateful for the love and prayers we've felt from across the globe. Thank you for your continued kindness and support during this very special time for our family," as reported by People Magazine.
Other senior royal family members also shared their congratulatory messages, with Prince William and Kate Middleton posting a heartfelt message on their official Instagram account. They wrote, "We are all delighted by the happy news of the arrival of baby Lili. Congratulations to Harry, Meghan, and Archie." Moreover, in another statement shared by Harry and Meghan following Lili’s birth, they explained the significance behind their daughter’s name. “Lili is named after her great-grandmother, Her Majesty The Queen, whose family nickname is Lilibet. Her middle name, Diana, was chosen to honor her beloved late grandmother, The Princess of Wales," they said.
The name 'Lilibet' was allegedly used by King George VI for his daughter, Queen Elizabeth II, and it remained close to her heart throughout her life. For instance, in 2021, a handwritten note signed 'Lilibet' was placed on the casket of Elizabeth's late husband, Prince Philip. As for the recent Australia trip, Princess Lilibet and her elder brother, Prince Archie, did not accompany their parents, staying behind at the family’s home in Montecito instead.
