Harry and Meghan Land a New Netflix Deal — With a Sweet Link to Their Wedding
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are moving forward with Netflix under a newly revised agreement. The Sussexes have secured a first-look deal through Archwell Productions and are already developing new projects, including a scripted film adaptation that has a rather sweet connection to their 2018 royal wedding.
The agreement allows the Sussexes to continue producing more projects while giving Netflix access to their ideas. The deal followed months of speculation that their original $100 million agreement wouldn’t be renewed. With the new deal, their partnership has shifted to a model that Netflix appears to favor. Markle had announced the extension of the same in August 2025 in a statement which read: “We’re proud to extend our partnership with Netflix and expand our work together to include the As Ever brand. My husband and I feel inspired by our partners who work closely with us and our Archewell Productions team to create thoughtful content across genres that resonates globally, and celebrates our shared vision.”
With the deal in place, they will produce an adaptation of The Wedding Date, the best-selling romance novel by Jasmine Guillory. According to Deadline, the Sussexes are doing so through Archewell Productions, alongside film producer Tracy Ryerson. Tracy Oliver, known for Survivor's Remorse and Harlem, will be the screenwriter of the adaptation.
Guillory's book was released in 2018, the same year as Harry and Markle's royal wedding. It is the first instalment of a six-book series. A log line from the same reads, “A groomsman and his last-minute guest are about to discover if a fake date can go the distance in a fun and flirty debut novel. Agreeing to go to a wedding with a guy she gets stuck with in an elevator is something Alexa Monroe wouldn't normally do. But there's something about Drew Nichols that's too hard to resist.” The book’s popularity helped establish Guillory as a leading voice in contemporary romance.
The new project arrives as Netflix continues to refine its deal-making strategy. In July, a Hollywood insider told PEOPLE that the Sussexes' signing a first-look deal signaled a broader shift at the company. Barack and Michelle Obama had gone down the same path with their banner, Higher Ground Productions. The renewed agreement comes after Markle's projects, including With Love, Meghan, received mixed reviews, failing to generate a strong viewership. Yet, Netflix’s continued collaboration with Markle and Harry has sustained interest in their brand and global reach.
Since singing with Netflix in 2020, the Duke and Duchess have built a growing body of work for the platform. Their docuseries Harry & Meghan remains the streaming service’s most-watched documentary debut. Then, they produced Live to Lead in 2020, Heart of Invictus in 2023, and Polo in 2024. The couple also released Masaka Kids: A Rhythm Within in early December, apart from three seasons of Markle's lifestyle show, With Love, Meghan.
